Reflections on Genesis 11 The ancient story of Babel warns us about arbitrary aspirations, pride, and a population overly concerned with “first world problems”. The ivory tower of modernity is getting pretty tall… And the language we’re using to communicate is getting pretty watered down. What can we do to avoid collapse? Be clear in our speech Say what we mean Let our yes be yes and no be no Speak truth in love And Turn our attention and energy from building our towers higher toward serving the “least of these”. Even in the first world, you don’t have to look far to see someone (adults or children) who need an encouraging, unwatered-down word and a moment of genuine love and joy. Here’s a start: Coach a Sports Team Teach Sunday School Put the technology down when there’s the potential for play around Invite a family to break bread at your table Go for a hike or a walk Start a game of frisbee There are so many ways to bring us back to a spirit of service and fun from busily building the tower too tall.
